You won’t find this local landmark in any tourist guidebooks, or see it marked on any maps. Nevertheless, it is one of my favorite things in South Minneapolis.
Situated at the intersection of Portland Avenue and the Minnehaha Parkway is a giant brass bunny. Created by artist Jeff Barber in 2002, Cottontail on the Trail (better known as “The Bunny”) has quickly become a local favorite for all ages. Neighbors dress up the bunny for all kinds of occasions. He has a long scarf in the winter, a floral wreath for spring, and patriotic ribbons for the Fourth of July. One autumn they even nestled an old rake between his enormous paws.
